PerfectMail DashBoard
It has been our experience that 80+% of all of the traffic directed at your e-mail server is
malicious. The majority of traffic comes from two types of mail activity:
-
Real-Time Black Hole Lists (RBLs)
Real Time Black Hole Lists (or RBLs) are lists of Industrial Spamming organizations.
These organizations purchase bandwidth and use it to flood the Internet with spam. Because
their traffic originates from the same IP addresses, they are easy to track down and block.
The excellent
SpamHaus
project does an excellent job of
vetting Industrial Spam organizations.
-
E-Mail Address Harvesting (Mining) Activity
Ever wonder how Spammers find you? They find you by harvesting e-mail addresses from any
possible source. Spammers scan Internet sites and traffic and extract (or Mine)
e-mail addresses from:
- Web Sites - by spidering e-mail hyperlinks, spammers collect
every e-mail address posted on your web site.
- Discussion Boards - by extracting member e-mail addresses
- E-Mail Chain Letters - that get passed along from person to person collect a lot of
e-mail addresses. If it gets passed to a Spammer, they've got you.
- Domain Name Registration - most domain name registration information is
publically available. Unless you are using cloaked domain name registrations, Spammers will
find you. Most people don't use cloaked registrations - because it costs more money.
- Internet News Groups - Spammers use News Group postings to collect e-mail
addresses
- Other Spammers - Spam e-mail lists are bought, sold and traded
But, the best source of new, functioning e-mail addresses is Your Own Mail Server!
Spammers employ an army of machines (we've seen over 100,000) to scan your e-mail servers.
These spam mining engines connect to your mail server and make SMTP request(s)
to send e-mail to
completely random users at your domain.
Your server will normally respond with a No such
user message. However, about once in 10,000 times (give or take), the Spammer will guess
right - and when they do, that user will be innundated with spam.
Spammers have complete control over this army of machines. Normally, a typical SMB
mail server may be queried no more than a hundred times per hour. However, when spammers
decide to become aggressive, they can easily hit your server 3,000+ times per hour.
PerfectMail records all Legitimate traffic along with
RBL and Mining activity. Legitimate traffic is displayed
in green. RBL activity is displayed in
purple. Mining activity is displayed in
blue.

We Know About all RBL and Mining Connections
PerfectMail keeps track of all mail activity, good or otherwise. We know which IP addresses
engage in RBL and/or Mining activity. We treat them with the same level of courtesy and
respect that they demonstrate to us!
Here's an up to the day graph of who is attempting to abuse our PerfectMail
server. We log everything so we know exactly why each IP address is on our list!
Sorry, there is no public account that will allow you to log in to our
