The PerfectMail L1000 cannot protect on-line mail services
Note that PerfectMail is not compatible with, and cannot protect you from, spam
received through on-line e-mail services including:
- Google™ GMail
- Microsoft™ Hotmail
- Yahoo™ Yahoo Mail
Requirements
To successfully deploy PerfectMail, you must have:
- Your own mail server either deployed behind a firewall or directly exposed to the Internet
(not recommended for safety reasons).
- DNS Mail Exchanger (MX) records that point to your mail server or firewall.
- A static IP address to either your firewall or your mail server.
- A firewall that port-forwards Port-25 traffic to your mail server. It is critical that your
firewall port-forward and not relay, as relaying will impair PerfectMail's reputation engine.
Desirable Items
Additionally, the following features are highly recommended:
- DSL or higher speed Internet connectivity.
- A competent port-forwarding firewall.
- A qualified e-mail/firewall administrator to aid in installation and administration.
- Ability to make DNS MX record changes to your domain configuration
- The ability to port forward non-standard ports to standard ports on the PerfectMail
appliance.
Future Plans
The following are not supported at this time, but may be supported in the future:
- E-mail exchanged through TLS. Please contact us if this feature is important to you. It is
on our to-do list.
- Proxy SMTP Authentication. Currently, PerfectMail does not do SMTP authentication. Please
contact us if you need this feature. It is also on our to-do list.
Non-Supported Configurations
We have no plans to provide support for the following features:
- Dynamic DNS services through
DynDns.org (or similar)
