Filter & Forward - Remote E-Mail Filtering Service

PerfectMail Filter & Forward e-mail delivery service gives smaller companies PerfectMail protection without the need to purchase a PerfectMail powered appliance. In a nutshell, a PerfectMail powered appliance placed in our data center acts as your Internet facing mail server. We accept all e-mail traffic on your behalf, filter that traffic and forward only legitimate e-mail to your real mail server (which remains safe and protected behind a firewall).

This service is ideal for smaller companies that:

• Run their own mail server such as:
  • Use Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Small Business Edition (SBS) and run MS Exchange for E-Mail, Group Calendaring and Group Contacts
  • Or use Lotus Notes
  • Or use Linux, UNIX or Mac OS/X with Sendmail, QMail, Exim or other Mail Transport Agents (MTAs)

• Typically have no more than 30 e-mail users (after which it may be more economical to purchase an appliance)

• Do not want to be concerned with running their own appliance

How It Works

Filter & Forward is a simple and effective way to provide e-mail protection. Here's how Filter & Forward is deployed:

1. XPMsoftware configures a PerfectMail appliances in our own data center to act as the primary mail server for all of your domain names (e.g.: YourCompany.com).

2. We configure the appliance with the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your real e-mail server. PerfectMail is then ready to accept all e-mail for your domain and forward only legitimate e-mail to your mail server.

3. XPMsoftware consultants help you to modify your Domain Name registration records so that the Domain Name Service (DNS) Mail Exchanger (MX) records point at the PerfectMail appliance. This directs all E-Mail requests to PerfectMail. Your mail server appears to drop off of the Internet (making it much harder for Spammers to find) and ours takes its place.

   DNS record changes are applied nightly so you are fully protected in less than 24 hours.

4. Your firewall should be configured so that mail traffic is only accepted from XPMsoftware's networks. This prevents Spammers from bypassing PerfectMail and accessing your mail server directly.

How Much Does It Cost?

PerfectMail Filter & Forward is inexpensive to set up and use. It easily pays for itself by reducing liklihood of virus outbreaks and by keeping unwanted e-mail (spam) from your employee's in-baskets (studies show that the average Internet E-Mail user receives between 18-120 unwanted messages per day. Users take between 10-20 seconds/email to handle or delete these messages reducing productivity by 5-30+ minutes per person per day).

There is a one-time set up fee of $200 to get you started. After that, billing is performed monthly by a credit card held on file by XPMsoftware. Alternative billing arrangements are possible (but may incur additional fees).

The One Month Free offer is subject to the following terms and conditions: Customer is responsible for the full Setup Fee. First month service is provided free of monthly per user charges. Before the end of the first month, the customer must notify XPMsoftware that they do not wish to continue with Filter & Forward service. Customer must place a valid credit card on file with XPMsoftware before start of service. If XPMsoftware receives termination notification before the one month trial period is over, XPMsoftware will give the customer until the end of the trial period to redirect DNS Mail Exchanger records back to the customers mail server. XPMsoftware will disable e-mail forwarding at the end of the last day of the trial period. It is the customer's responsibility to make the appropriate DNS changes to re-establish the customers mail server presence on the Internet. If the customer chooses to continue with the service, the customer is billed in advance for the actual number of users being protected by PerfectMail (rounded up to the number of users in the chart (above).
